The Sims Online flops?
The very much-hyped online version of The Sims has apparently fallen far short of expectations, according to this L.A. Times story. Both intial sales and subscribers are fewer than expected, and reviews and user feedback about the game have not been positive. This game was supposed to be one of the most highly distilled forms of digital crack known to man, but apparently EA released it to customers before it was ready. It will be interesting to see if the game can build up an audience over the long term as objects are added and bugs are squashed. If not, the game's failure could help convince game developers that "mainstream" players aren't ready for massively multiplayer online games.
