Desktop environments compared

— 2:53 AM on March 18, 2003

OS news has an interesting comparison of different desktop environments that's definitely worth checking out for those on the lookout for a better user interface. The article compares Windows XP's Luna, Apple's OS X Aqua, BeOS 6's Dano/Zeta and Unix's KDE and Gnome desktop environments based on everything from usability to stability, and of course, eye candy. The author prefers Windows XP's Luna interface, which many enthusiasts eschew, but she makes some good observations about each desktop environment's strengths and weaknesses without resorting to praising or bashing the environments' underlying operating systems.
