Mozilla will give way to Phoenix & Thunderbird

— 3:11 AM on April 4, 2003

BetaNews has unearthed a roadmap revealing that Mozilla will be replaced by a leaner and meaner web browser called Phoenix. Here are some more details:

Phoenix is a redesign of the Mozilla Web browser solely using the cross-platform XUL user interface language without Mozilla's bulky XPFE toolkit. Rather than integrating all functionality into a single suite, Phoenix supports extensions that enable developers to tack on features as needed without bloating the core code base.
Mozilla 1.4 will be the last of its breed. It's sort of ironic that this might affect AOL users the most. Thanks to Perezoso for the news submission.
