NVIDIA to pep up GeForce FX 5600 Ultra

— 8:00 AM on May 14, 2003

Beyond the Detonator FX news, NVIDIA is beefing up its GeForce FX product line today by announcing a new spin of the GeForce FX 5600 Ultra. Since its preliminary announcement, NVIDIA has adjusted this product a little in order to make it more competitive. The GPU will now live in a flip-chip package, and as a result, NVIDIA has been able to turn up the clock rates to 400MHz for both the chip core and memory. At those speeds, NVIDIA expects the 5600 Ultra to outperform the Radeon 9600 Pro. (Of course, the 9600 Pro may not be its primary competition.) GeForce FX 5600 Ultra cards should hit store shelves in June.
