Sony gives touch screens tactile feedback

— 4:35 AM on June 13, 2003

The Inquirer has a blurb on a new touch screen LCD technology that actually provides tactile feedback. Sony is behind the new screen, which uses piezo effect vibrations to let users feel buttons on the screen. The technology will reportedly make its way into PDAs by the end of the year, but I wonder if it might also be useful in TabletPCs where a useful virtual keyboard could pop up on command. I'd imagine that cell phone manufacturers could come up with a few interesting applications of the technology, too.
