Preliminary GeForce FX 5700 specs revealed

— 2:43 PM on July 23, 2003

Xbit Labs has some preliminary specs for NV36, which will reportedly become the GeForce FX 5700 this fall. It's expected that the chip will be manufactured by IBM, feature four rendering pipelines, and have a core clock speed around 500MHz. The preliminary specs show the GeForce FX 5700 with a 256-bit memory interface and memory clocked around 325MHz. Count on lots of ambiguous "levels of parallelism" inside the chip's programmable shader, too.

ATI has dominated the mid-range graphics market since it introduced the Radeon 9500 Pro, but the GeForce FX 5700 could carve out a nice slice of the pie for NVIDIA. Of course, ATI may also refresh its mid-range graphics products in the fall with a successor to the Radeon 9600 Pro.
