Shuttle to build cube with Radeon 9100 IGP

— 6:21 AM on August 1, 2003

The Inquirer is reporting that Shuttle will build a small form factor XPC system using ATI's Radeon 9100 IGP. It's unclear whether a Radeon 9100 IGP-based cube would also incorporate an AGP slot, but that's definitely something I'd like to see given the IGP's ability to power a third monitor when used with a multimonitor Radeon AGP card.

Because the Radeon 9100 IGP doesn't support Intel's latest 800MHz front-side bus, it's unlikely that a cube based on the chipset will be geared towards performance enthusiasts; Shuttle already has the Springdale-powered SB61G2 for the Pentium 4 "C". However, a Radeon 9100 IGP-powered cube could be targeted at the home theater PC market, business applications, or even students looking for a funky dorm room PC. If Shuttle does use the Radeon 9100 IGP in a small form factor system, I can only hope they give a nod to ATI and roll out the cube in gleaming fire engine red.
