Full-tilt mousing from Microsoft

— 1:36 PM on August 7, 2003

A new line of mice from Microsoft is set to rock, with the introduction of Tilt Wheel Technology. The new technology will allow the scroll wheel to be moved from left to right, adding a new axis of control that will enable horizontal scrolling with the mouse. Logitech does not appear impressed by the new feature, and notes that its drivers have had a feature to enable task switching with the mouse wheel for a year. This feature will be new to MS mice, however, when drivers appear for the Tilt Wheel products.

The new mice from Microsoft are set to launch on September the 3rd, leaving users with at least four weeks with scroll wheels that will either switch applications or turn on omnidirectional scrolling, but not both, and even longer for gamers to argue the merits of remapping strafe controls to the scroll wheel.
