ECS to make ATI-based graphics cards

— 5:17 AM on August 13, 2003

DigiTimes is reporting that ECS will start shipping graphics cards based on ATI GPUs by the end of this quarter. ECS has traditionally made low-end graphics cards, but they apparently want a slice of the high-end pie.

Given ECS's roots in low-end products, I wouldn't expect its Radeons to stray much from ATI's reference designs or offer much in the way of bundled extras. However, ECS may be able to produce high-end Radeons more cheaply than other manufacturers. As boring as cookie cutter cards may be, I'm sure more than just a handful of gamers wouldn't mind saving a few dollars on a reference Radeon 9800 Pro.
