PowerPC trio in lover's spat; G4 stuck at 0.5GHz

I just couldn't resist mentioning this in the wake of my recent, inflammatory article on the problems with Mac speeds and pricing. Yep, the G4 may indeed win at some—perhaps even most—synthetic processor benchmarks on a clock-for-clock basis, but believe me, 0.5GHz G4s are no match for 1GHz Athlons and PIIIs. Yet while AMD and Intel raise clock speeds to 1000MHz, the PowerPC partners are going at it Hatfield and McCoy style. IBM seems to have found a way to produce acceptable yields of G3s capable of as much as 650MHz, but Motorola won't let IBM sell these chips to Apple. Sounds like a winning strategy to me.
