PSX2 fastest console yet--for bugs

Well that certainly didn't take long. Reports are starting to float in (check these links at Gaming Age and The Register) regarding problems with the Playstation 2. Sony has apparently issued a recall of all the memory cards, after a rather interesting problem was discovered. It seems Ridge Racer 5 corrupts the memory card, and thus the DVD drivers on the card, rendering the machine unable to play DVD's until the drivers are reloaded onto the memory card.

There are also apparently various problems with DVD playback, everything from sound skips to certain discs (region 2 DVD's, dual layer dual side DVD's) refusing to play on the machine. Let's just hope for Sony's sake that none of these are hardware related. Given that they sold just shy of a million units in three days, that'd be one bitch of a recall.
