AMD releases Q3 financials

— 4:38 AM on October 17, 2003

AMD is reporting upbeat financial results for the third quarter of this year. The company is still in the red, but only by $31 million in Q3, which is a far cry from previous quarterly losses which have been in the hundreds of millions.

Perhaps the most encouraging stat from AMD's financials is the fact that its third quarter sales increased by 48% from Q2 of this year, and 88% from Q3 of last year. At a glance, that doesn't sound too bad. However, Intel's third quarter financial results claim a net income increase of 85% over Q2 of this year, and 142% over Q3 of last year.

That AMD and Intel's sales were both up by significant margins suggests that the PC industry may be rebounding nicely, but more for Intel than for AMD. It may largely be up to the Athlon 64 to make up the difference.
