Competition pecking away at Shuttle's XPC market

— 4:24 AM on November 13, 2003

DigiTimes is reporting that Shuttle expects XPC small form factor system shipments to grow another 25% next year. 25% growth sounds pretty impressive, but considering that Shuttle expects its 2003 XPC shipments to more than double 2002's output, it's clear that Shuttle is finally sharing the market with other players.

Small form factor systems have certainly become popular since Shuttle launched the seminal SV24, and numerous manufacturers are trying to get in on the action. Already Abit, MSI, Soltek, Biostar, and others have tackled the small form factor "cube" platform and come up with a few innovative new features in the process. Let's hope that increasing competition can help to spurn further innovation and even trigger a bit of a price war.
