More details of Intel's Alderwood and Grantsdale chipset families, slated to appear mid-2004, are emerging. The new chipsets are known to support several new technologies, such as DDR-II and PCI Express, but they will also come with a clutch of new features. Most recently, it has been revealed that the ICH6 southbridge to be used in Intel's forthcoming chipsets is that it will feature Matrix RAID, a flexible striping and mirroring technology. Also, Wi-Fi capability will be rolled into ICH6, giving nearly every new system potential wireless networking capability, with a minimum of additional hardware. December of 2003 has fans of austerity on the run.
