Yamhill confirmation a misquotation

— 3:08 AM on December 29, 2003

Last week, a number of articles quoted an Intel public relations officer who claimed that the company has been working on a 64-bit x86 processor that they could bring to market if consumers demand it. Now, Xbit Labs has a statement from Intel claiming that the PR officer was misquoted:

When asked for clarification, an Intel’s spokespersons said: “the Intel PR person was misquoted... So we have not confirmed a CPU or prototype or whatever [Investor's Business Daily] claimed.”
Does this mean that Yamhill doesn't exist? Not necessarily. However, if Intel does have a secret x86-64 processor waiting in reserve, they're certainly not ready to talk about it just yet.
