Google-bombing for fun and politics

— 11:57 PM on January 22, 2004

The New York Times has an amusing write-up on Google-bombing, the practice of manipulating Google search results for specific search terms. One example cited prominently in the article is the term "miserable failure." Right now, George W. Bush, Hillary Clinton, Jimmy Carter, and Michael Moore are contending for the top match. Will tricks like this seriously pollute the sterling quality of Google's search results, or are they just a passing curiosity?
