G5-to-PC conversion provokes insanity

— 11:19 AM on February 4, 2004

The guys at Overclockers.com posted an amusing article last week showing the conversion of a PowerMac G5 into an Athlon XP-based PC. Turns out the author of the thing, "Andy," stretched the truth when he said he'd received the Mac for Christmas and decided to convert it to a PC because he wasn't a Mac kinda guy. Not a great shock to learn that, since he would have been destroying the resale value of an irrationally, fabulously expensive computer. But the most dumbfounding part of this whole tale is told in this story at Wired News about the reaction from Mac users to Andy's supposed conversion project. He got death threats and worse. Some fanboys never cease to amaze.
