Pentium 4 2.8E overclocking explored

— 3:29 PM on February 9, 2004

The HardOCP has posted a short article detailing their experiences overclocking an OEM Prescott Pentium 4 2.8E, and the results are certainly encouraging. Using a stock air cooler and default voltage, they managed to crank the 2.8E up to 3.3GHz; adding water cooling and a little extra voltage helped the chip hit 3.5GHz. Considering the scarcity of Pentium 4 2.8E chips, it's hard to know if the guys at the HardOCP were just lucky, or if the majority of 2.8E chips will run in excess of 3.2GHz. Keep your fingers crossed.
