VIA intros KT880 chipset for Athlon XP

Socket A lives, and at long last, VIA has a dual-channel chipset to go toe-to-toe with the nForce2. The press release is fresh from our inbox:

Featuring the DualStream64™ memory controller, an intuitive package of new dual channel DDR400 memory technologies, and a host of top-class connectivity features, the KT880 sports native Serial ATA/RAID, VIA Vinyl 6-channel Audio, 10/100 Ethernet, as well as optional VIA Vinyl Gold 8-channel Audio and VIA Velocity Gigabit Ethernet support through the addition of VIA companion controllers.
We've already seen good performance from PT880, the Pentium 4 version of this chipset, and the KT880 seems likely to follow suit. Since many of you still seem interested in Socket A, we may have to get a KT880 mobo for testing soon.
