A new overclocking king?

— 11:28 AM on February 19, 2004

Now here is a pretty smooth way of getting yourself some extra overclocking headroom. The guys at Warp2Search.net are reporting that folks are buying Athlon XP-M 2500+ processors (the mobile chips) and putting 'em into desktop motherboards for some serious overclocks. The chip comes unlocked, they say, and it runs at a low, low default voltage. As a result, overclockers are hitting speeds on the order of 2700MHz with these puppies. Not bad for a $75 processor. Sounds like Socket A may be alive and kicking for a while longer.
