Microsoft preps anti-virus features for SP2

— 4:11 AM on February 25, 2004

Microsoft has started testing a built-in virus scanner planned for Windows XP Service Pack 2, but virus protection looks to be the least of SP2's security features. Apparently, the code changes in SP2 are so sweeping that Microsoft has created a developer forum to ensure compatibility with third party applications.

In an effort to make security settings easier to find and use, SP2 will consolidate Windows XP's various security features in a single interface. However, there's no word yet on whether anti-virus, firewall, or security patching features will be enabled by default.
