ECS to take Prescott mobile

— 9:55 AM on February 25, 2004

This article over at DigiTimes claims that ECS will launch Prescott-based notebook and DeskNote systems in March or April of this year. Given the power consumption and heat output of current Prescott CPUs, it seems likely that ECS's mobile Prescott platforms will be based on a new stepping of the desktop processor or even a mobile version of the chip with additional power saving features. In their current form, Prescott CPUs would drain a notebook battery in no time at all, and I'm not sure I'd want one resting on my lap without something like Antec's NoteBook Cooler or perhaps a fire-retardant apron.
