3.0GHz Prescott delayed, exclusive to LGA-775

— 3:46 AM on March 1, 2004

This story over at DigiTimes claims that Intel has postponed 3.0GHz Prescott production until April. "Capacity constraints" are apparently behind the delay, but the report also suggests that the 3.0GHz chips will only be available in a 775-pin packaging.

If 3.0GHz Prescotts will only be available in a 775-pin packaging, it makes little sense to release the chips before LGA-755 motherboards become available. Motherboards based on the new socket design may not emerge until Intel and other chipset vendors formally launch their next-generation core logic chipsets, presumably in the spring.
