VIA goes dually

— 12:10 AM on March 31, 2000

VIA announced today their symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) capable version of the Apollo 133A chipset. This is new territory for VIA, far as I know, and this introduction should help further establish the 133A as the platform of choice for new Pentium III systems. The 133A should be the best way to get UDMA/66, an (officially supported) 133MHz front-side bus, and AGP 4X in an SMP rig.

Incidentally, the Nerd's dual BX Coppermine rig arrived yesterday, and I have been playing with it tonight. So far, so smooth. The BX chipset lives! Andy at BXBoards may yet have the last laugh.
