Acer is planning to launch a new line of desktop replacement notebooks that weigh in at almost 16 pounds. That's right, 16 pounds. The hefty desktop replacements will sport 17" screens, 7,200 RPM hard drives, and Prescott Pentium 4 processors, but won't be nearly as portable as most notebooks. Still, a 16 pound desktop replacement should be easier to lug around than even Shuttle's smallest XPC systems.
With at least one model featuring GeForce FX Go5700 graphics, Acer's new heavyweights could be popular among gaming enthusiasts who regularly drag their systems to LAN parties. However, there's no word yet on whether Acer will offer a graphics upgrade option for any of these new desktop replacements.
