Friday night topic: The future of mobile computing
What will mobile computing look like a number of years down the road from now, when cell phone-sized personal mobile devices have the power of today's desktop PCs built in, plus all the communications capabilities of a PDA, cell phone, GPS navigator, television, and radio? Won't such devices be seamless citizens of multiple IP networks with up to a gigabit of bandwidth available, from wireless broadband service to Wi-Fi to cell phone networks? What kinds of new applications, games, and user interfaces will become common? Will we TiVo our favorite shows on our phones? Will most folks care to own desktop PCs then, or will they just plug these mobile devices into docking stations in order to do some word processing or pay the bills?
