Windows XP SP2 RC1 can be downloaded

If you've been glued to the TV watching March Madness, you might have missed the news that Microsoft released Windows XP Service Pack 2 Release Candidate 1 to the general public last week. For those keeping track, this is build 2092. Remember, this is beta, so forewarned is forearmed. In fact, you will have to uninstall any beta build of SP2 (including this release candidate) before you install the commercial version. However, if you choose to download RC1, the full network install tips the scale at an amazing 273MB.

Not sure if you want to take the plunge yet? Well, then, you're in luck. I Am Not A Geek has written a review of RC1. They even provide a link to the express installer that will only download the files that you need. It's only 991KB—a real bandwidth saver over the network install.
