Q1 processor market share numbers published

The Register has processor market share numbers for the first quarter of this year. As you might expect, Intel continues to dominate the vast majority of the x86 processor market. With 83.6% of the x86 processor market overall, 90.1% of notebook chips, and a whopping 96.9% of x86 server processors, the term "dominate" may even be a little conservative.

AMD is slowly gaining ground on Intel in the server space, though. The underdog managed to improve its share of the server market by 1.7% for the first quarter of the year, no doubt thanks to Opteron. However, AMD's overall processor share grew by only 0.2% in the first quarter, and its slice of the notebook processor pie actually dropped 3.2%.
