Game developers weigh in on pixel shader 3.0

— 8:07 PM on April 22, 2004

The guys at GamersDepot have done a nice job rounding up opinions from a group of top game developers on the merits of NVIDIA's new shader model 3.0. Based on these answers, it seems opinions vary widely on when and how much the new shader model's improved capabilities, like 32-bit floating-point precision per color channel and dynamic flow control, will matter. Some developers cite real, concrete examples where shader model 3.0 ought to help, and others seem unimpressed with the move from 2.0 to 3.0. I have a feeling this debate will intensify in the coming weeks.
