Yahoo to offer more email storage

— 5:12 AM on May 17, 2004

Google's Gmail service isn't even out of beta yet, but it's already having an impact on at least one of its competitors. Yahoo will reportedly up its free email account storage limit from 6MB to 100MB in the second or third quarter of this year. The company will supposedly increase the storage capacity of subscriber email accounts to be "on par" with Gmail's 1GB storage limit, too. There's no word yet on whether Microsoft will boost Hotmail storage, but let's hope they do. The 2MB storage capacity offered by basic Hotmail accounts is going to look really stingy next to 100MB from Yahoo and 1GB from Google.
