VIA announces Envy24MT audio for notebooks

— 2:08 AM on June 4, 2004

VIA is bringing its Envy24 audio technology to notebooks with the Envy24MT. The Envy24MT audio chip supports 24-bit/192kHz audio and apparently has "ultra-low" power requirements, but it's not just for notebooks. According to VIA's press release, the chip can also be integrated onto PC motherboards; small form factor systems are also mentioned:

"Given the quickly expanding market for notebook and small form factor systems, together with the growing emphasis on digital media consumption, the VIA Vinyl Envy24MT fills an important market void for high quality audio," commented Richard Brown, Associate Vice President of Marketing, VIA Technologies, Inc.
Let's hope VIA fills the important void for high quality audio in its EPIA lineup with an Envy24MT-equipped Mini ITX platform.
