Rumor: Will dual-core Prescotts appear by 2005?

— 10:10 PM on June 10, 2004

The following should be taken as hearsay since Intel has not released any official statements that confirm this story. TR reader Perezoso submitted this link to Geek.com which suggests that future versions of Intel's Pentium 4 Prescott processor will be dual-core. If this is true, then because each core will support Hyper-Threading, an HT-aware operating system should be able to see the equivalent of four logical processors resulting in lots of creamy smooth goodness for desktop PCs.

X-bit labs provides a bit more analysis of this implication including a statement from an Intel representative concerning the veracity of this story.
