More on AMD's hard core twins

AnandTech brings us images of a dual-core Opteron die. The chip seems to be no more involved than putting two Opteron cores on the same die, meaning that each processor will have its own L2 cache and memory controller. To unleash the dual-channel memory controllers of both cores, the processor package would need significantly more pins, a possibility that Anand suggests. Keeping in line with AMD's claim of pin compatibility, he also posits that each core will have only one memory channel enabled. These are just two of the possibilities AMD may be looking at, but for now, the company is distancing itself from specifics.
