Copy-protected CD hits #1

— 3:59 AM on June 18, 2004

Velvet Revolver's debut CD has reached a milestone of sorts. "Contraband" is the first copy-protected album to hit #1 in the US. Some see the hit record as proof that the public is ready for copy-protected CDs, but since holding the Shift key apparently bypassed the CD's copy-protection scheme, it's hard to pass judgment. Perhaps the only remarkable thing about Velvet Revolver's release is that a group of washed up rockers managed to beat pop acts like Usher and Avril Lavigne for the top spot on the album charts.
