Nocona, Tumwater to debut next week?

— 2:41 AM on June 23, 2004

According to a report over at Xbit Labs, Intel will release "Nocona" core Xeon processors next week. The chips are being built using a 0.09-micron fabrication process and will be the first to support Intel's 64-bit extensions. The report also suggests that Nocona will finally boost the Xeon front-side bus up to 800MHz, and that Intel is also on the verge of releasing the "Tumwater" E7525 chipset. Tumwater is a dual-Xeon chipset with PCI Express x16 graphics, a dual-channel DDR2 memory controller, and likely one of Intel's new ICH6 south bridge chips.
