Microsoft to ease upgrade to XP-64

— 3:03 AM on June 30, 2004

New information has surfaced detailing how Microsoft will sell Windows XP for 64-bit Extended Systems. In addition to being pre-installed on systems from OEMs, XP-64 will also be available through distributors as an OEM OS, though not as a retail product. Microsoft also wants to "take care" of current Windows XP Pro license holders, potentially though a license trade-in program that would ease upgrades to 64-bit without charging them again.
