The original man of vaporware

Babbage's innovative Differential Engine 2 (the basis for the Harvard Mark I) never made it; neither did his printer, until now. Maybe we'll hear the same in 2200: "BitBoys Oy Glaze3D 200 year old videocard made!" Babbage kept promising the British government he'd design a machine to make tables for sea navigation (a key factor for world superiority then). He only made a prototype of his first-generation, non-exciting Differential Engine. After that Babbage wanted to build the Analytical Engine before he actually made the real Differential Engine he promised the government. The government did not care if the Analytical Engine was better and cut his funding.
