NVIDIA serves up Media Center bundles

— 2:56 AM on July 13, 2004

The Register is reporting that NVIDIA is offering Media Center PC bundles to system builders.

Each package comprises a GeForce 6800 or FX graphics chip, nForce 2 or 3 chipset, Nvidia TV tuner card, and the company's DVD playback software plus control utilities.
It may seem a little odd that NVIDIA is packaging discrete tuner cards rather than its all-in-one Personal Cinema graphics cards, but the NVTV tuners in question feature hardware MPEG2 encoding capabilities that the Personal Cinema lacks. The article also suggests that Microsoft has decided to make Media Center Edition available to system builders, though Microsoft's web site's continues to claim that the OS is only available from "Microsoft PC manufacturer partners."
