Behind the search for Valve's HL2 code thieves

— 5:22 AM on July 21, 2004

This came out last Thursday, but in case you missed it, The Guardian has published the story behind the apprehension of the hackers who stole Valve's Half-Life 2 source code last October. It seems that the enthusiast community played a vital role in bringing these boys to justice:

In January, it came to light that the FBI, Scotland Yard and the German authorities, along with the Half-Life 2 fan community, had been searching for the culprits since the leak was announced last October. Last month, the thieves were arrested in Germany and other undisclosed countries.
Score one for the good guys.
