Intel delays 4.0GHz Pentium 4

— 3:49 AM on July 30, 2004

Intel has delayed its 4.0GHz Pentium 4 processor until the first quarter of next year. The chip was originally supposed to debut before the end of the year, but Intel doesn't expect to have adequate volumes of the speedy chip until early 2005.

In related news, Intel's fastest Pentium 4 560 3.6GHz chips are in short supply. The chip is unavailable in retail and has only shown up in a handful of OEM systems. Even more telling is the fact that Dell lists a 45-day wait period for systems equipped with the Pentium 4 560. If Dell has to wait for chips, you know there aren't many to go around.
