Unpatched systems compromised in 20 minutes

According to this story over at ZDNet, unpatched Windows systems connected to the Internet can be compromised in as little as 20 minutes. Last year, the time to compromise a Windows box was closer to 40 minutes, highlighting a disturbing trend that leaves users little time to download security updates.

Earlier this year, Microsoft offered a handy Windows Security Update CD free of charge. Unfortunately, that update CD is no longer available. Windows XP Service Pack 2 isn't yet available on CD, either, leaving Windows XP users in a bit of a bind. It might not be a bad idea to download the SP2 network installer and burn it to CD, just in case.
