ASRock would like to sell you a bridge

— 9:58 PM on August 24, 2004

OCW has the scoop on a hybrid K7/K8 motherboard to be offered by ASRock. The mainboard itself sports Socket A and what appears to be a garden variety combination of VIA's KT880 northbridge with the VT8237 southbridge. Setting this board apart, however, is ASRock's "K8 Bridge Port", an AGP-like slot for a riser card, featuring Socket 754. Though ASRock says that this K7Upgrade-880 motherboard offers a cost effective upgrade feature, it remains to be seen how much the K8 bridge will eat into those savings.
