— 3:47 AM on September 21, 2004

Tyan has announced a unique single-processor server board based on Intel's E7221 chipset. The Tomcat i7221 supports LGA775 processors on a 533 or 800MHz front-side bus and dual channels of unbuffered ECC or non-ECC DDR400 memory. With an ICH6R on-board, the Tomcat boasts 4-port Serial ATA RAID and a couple of PCI Express x1 slots. It's also packing a pair of PCI-E Gigbit Ethernet controllres and a 133MHz 64-bit PCI-X slot. The board looks a lot like an updated version of the Trinity GC-SL that we reviewed last year.
