Is Google brewing up an instant messaging app?

— 12:00 AM on October 18, 2004 is speculating about Google's possible move into instant messaging software. The report appears to be prompted mainly by a security consultant's efforts to dig into Google's Desktop Search beta to see what he could find, and it looks to me like he found nothing but the app's IM log searching capabilities. Still, Google owns Hello, plus photo sharing software, Blogger, GMail, and now Desktop Search. Somehow, this is all likely to come together, and IM clients could use a dose of Google's sensibleness.
