Cray ships Opteron supercomputer

— 2:53 AM on October 26, 2004

Cray has started shipping its XT3 supercomputers. The XT3 can use between 200 and 30,000 Opteron processors, with pricing starting at a cool $2 million. The US Department of Energy's Sandia National Laboratories has already been shipped one quarter of its 40-teraflop "Red Storm" XT3. When that system is completed, it will boast 11,000 Opterons and 240 terabytes of disk storage. Thanks to Slashdot for the tip.
