HyperTransport problems stall nForce4 chipset

— 11:20 AM on October 27, 2004

The Inquirer is reporting that NVIDIA is still having problems getting its nForce4 chipset running with a 1GHz HyperTransport bus. The issue was supposed to be fixed in the A02 stepping of the chipset, but now it looks like it will take an A03 stepping to iron out the kinks. Until then, nForce4 boards are apparently running with an 800MHz HyperTransport bus. It's unclear whether early nForce4 review samples have been saddled with the slower HT bus, and since NVIDIA hasn't been able to get us a board, we can't check ourselves. Let's hope anxious manufacturers eager to have the first nForce4 board on the market don't rush shipments with A02 silicon and an 800MHz HT link.
