SiS ramps production of PCI-E chipsets

— 3:41 AM on December 14, 2004

Intel has had a lock on PCI-Express chipsets for the Pentium 4 since June, but that's about to change. SiS will apparently start volume shipments of its SiS649 and SiS656 north bridge and SiS965 south bridge chips this month. The SiS649 and SiS656 both sport PCI-E x16 slots, while the SiS965 offers a pair of x1 slots. SiS will also begin volume production of its SiS756 Athlon 64 north bridge chip this month, although there's no word on when boards based on it or SiS's new Pentium 4 chipsets will be available on the market.
