Itanium staff move of EPIC proportions

— 3:56 PM on December 15, 2004

Tomorrow, it is expected that HP will announce the transfer of an Itanium processor design team to Intel. After abandoning Itanium workstation lines earlier this year, this narrows HP's involvement with Itanium to nearly nothing and puts an end to its 16 year joint venture with Intel to develop Itanium's EPIC architecture. The Intel handover also marks the second, (arguably the third) HP processor family to be cut under the watch of CEO Carly "Cat o' Nine Tails" Fiorina.
