AMD, Intel sample new processors

— 2:58 AM on December 31, 2004

AMD and Intel have reportedly sampled new processors to clients in Taiwan. Samples of Intel's upcoming 600-series Pentium 4 processors, which feature Speed Step technology, EM64T, and the Execution Disable Bit, are apparently making the rounds. Since 600-series processors are expected in the first quarter of 2005, it's not surprising to see them sampling already. However, it's notable that AMD may have already sent dual-core Opteron samples to select partners. According to AMD's own processor roadmap, dual-core Opterons won't be available until the second half of next year.
