Friday night topic: The end of Trek?

— 6:01 PM on February 4, 2005

The last remaining incarnation of the Star Trek franchise, Enterprise, was cancelled this week. There is some brave talk from fans about trying to resurrect the show, but that seems unlikely. Enterprise was on life support for most of last season, and barely made it into another year. I've already explained my beef with the low-stakes problem in recent Trek stuff. Is there any hope for a future movie or show, or is it time for Trek to call it quits? Could the franchise be saved by a new caretaker? Also, what sci-fi shows will step in to fill the void? I'm rooting for the new Battlestar Galactica, which so far has been excellent.
